Guy Gibbs – Silver Mountain
Guy Gibbs and Chris Field discover a real hidden gem on their journey from Stevens Pass, Washington to Fernie in Canada – Silver Mountain. This looks like a pretty epic piece of trail.
As part of our summer roadtrip in the camper we took a trip across the border to the USA to race the NW cup in Stevens Pass, Washington. The track was great fun apart from a long sprint at the end which produced a couple of coughed-up lungs. After seeding 3rd I had big hopes for the finals but a little sprinkling of rain for the last 10 riders made the ladder bridges a little slick resulting in an off track drama that was hurriedly forgotten as we continued trucking along to our next race destination just over the border back in Fernie, Canada.
The week in between the two races however was one of the summer’s best. We had asked the other racers from the states where was good to stop off between Stevens Pass and Fernie, a drive that would take us through Idaho and Montana. The name “Silver Mountain” was mentioned a few times so we decided to stop off there for a day.
That was a very, very good decision.

The term ‘hidden gem’ has never been more fitting. The tracks were unbelievably good. With quite a relaxed gradient, we were told to take the trail bikes which turned out to also be very good advice.
The main gondola took us up to the top of the mountain where another network of chairlifts operated during the winter. One of those chairlifts however remained open during the summer and these tracks were amazing. Foot deep in dust, built wide with lots of options and well-built corners proved an exhilarating challenge for the trail bikes. We did a little filming here to remember the fantastic tracks before descending 25 mins non-stop on the most epic singletrack you have ever ridden, complete with berms, rollers and doubles.
We then finished off the day with a free-of-charge trip to the waterpark in the resort at the bottom of the lifts.
Cheers Siver Mountain, we’ll definitely be back!
