Royal Racing 2015 – First Look

We have our first few outings in the 2015 Royal Matrix jacket and shorts, the Impact jersey and the Storm shorts.
Royal Racing are a long running brand with their roots in the heart and soul of British mountain biking. Some of those roots have spread across the pond to British Columbia, but their product lines still reflect what British riders need, especially when the going gets sloppy!

Matrix Jacket

Royal-6468

The Matrix has been in their line-up for a few years now, and has proved itself as a full on jacket for the foulest of weather. The breathable fabric of the outer layer feels tough and hard wearing, with simple detailing. The pockets are in the right place to access with a pack on, and the hood fits properly over a half-face lid. The pockets, like the main zip, are waterproofed, and also double as vents. Inside the mesh liner helps to keep things not feeling clingy, and a simple port lets you run your headphones up inside the jacket for the solo-Iron-Maiden missions. I love the pimpin’ lime green, but for those of a more conservative nature you can also have black.

Storm Shorts

Complimenting the Matrix jacket are the Storm shorts. They feature a super-simple cut, a couple of hidden zipped pockets and and a decent closure at the top. Most importantly, they are totally waterproof and breathable without feeling like a horrible bin liner. Simple, effective and a lot less panels than other shorts on the market should hopefully mean these are up to the job of keeping our bums dry all through spring!

Impact Jersey

Royal-6460

Another simple but really nicely put together top from Royal. The cut is a nice mix of fitted, but not tight, and with enough room to breath. The back panel is a fine mesh that helps to cut down on back-sweat under packs, and makes for a really well vented top. Roll on summer!

Matrix 2 Shorts

Royal-6454

Like the jacket, the Matrix shorts have been on the line up for a few years now, and this year have evolved into a slimmed down and really stylish pair of shorts – light to wear, tough fabric, a couple of pockets and clean stylings – these might just be a contender for “favourite shorts”!
