Oneal Protectives – First Look
ONeal has been in the MX game since the ’60s but it wasn’t until the late ’80s when it entered the mountain bike market. Jim ONeal was an MX rider during the birth and the initial growth of the sport. Driven by a need to help himself and his fellow riders to progress in the sport, Jim started to design equipment specifically for their needs. These same processes are now used to inspire their mountain bike range.
Here we have a look at two of their most recent full-face lids and a set of their Sinner knee pads that they’ve been kind enough to send us.
SINNER Kevlar Knee Guard –
This knee pad has been redesigned over the previous model. The double velcro straps help aid fit and comfort. The IPX protection pad is removable via a velcro pocket on the inside. This helps cleaning and if nothing else, saves all the knocking if you put them through your machine (but not recommended on the label).

BACKFLIP Fidlock DH Helmet –
One thing ONeal can’t be accused of is boring design or lack of imagination, this Backflip lid comes in ten different flavours. One of which is this Bungarra Black/Hi-Viz. For ONeal this design is quite understated in its design. Personally I like the simple/bold design, some might prefer the more creative options available. ONeal’s Fidlock strap system is great, so easy to fasten and undo as required.

FURY Fidlock DH Helmet –
The Fury comes in over ten different designs, including this Mercury Black/Hi-Viz option, others include – Wild Multi, California, Fuel, Afterburner and Matte. This one has that ONeal lairy touch to it, not to everyones taste but the others are a little more muted in their style. The removable liner and cheek pads are a good touch to keep everything fresh.
