O'Neal 2015 - First Look

Chris Lazenby has got his hands on some brand spanking new 2015 O’Neal kit. It’s already had a few sessions out in the dirt. How’s it holding up so far?

O’Neal Zipper knee pad. The main selling point of this product is the zip down the side. This system allows the pad to be fitted or removed without have to take your shoes off, making it a good piece of protection for all day use. The zip has clear advantages during racing, allowing quick removal for transfer stages, this lets the legs relax, and regenerate quicker. As well as the zip there are also velcro straps to help get the perfect fit, how well the zip works during riding in mud and wintery conditions will be found out soon. £84.99

Appalachee knee guard, a lightweight pad with flexible protection, it does provide really good comfort while riding. The simple strap-free design is very comfortable and does not bunch up behind the knee while peddling. While this system is light, it does not make the pads super secure. I’ve not encountered any movement while riding but only time will tell how secure they are in a crash. The material is very breathable which helps prevent your legs from overheating, this low friction material is also comfortable and does not rub against the skin. £33.99

I’ve always been a fan of minimalist gloves and these are very comfy, no extra padding or seams on the palms means a good feel at the bars. The silicone printing adds grip while not effecting the feel. £20.99

The B3. O’Neal’s flagship goggle. How many of us have struggled changing lenses, trying to line up all the awkward little pins with the appropriate holes. This system with their ‘quick release lens technology’ aims to set the new standard. In practice it does work very well and is far less awkward than the standard method. The lens includes tear-off pins, clear lenses available also. £67.99
