Giro Montaro MIPS Trail Helmet- First Look

Giro produce a huge range of gear from technical riding apparel, shoes, gloves and helmets. For now we’re concentrating on one of their latest trail lids, the MIPS equipped Montaro.

The Giro Montaro helmet is designed as a big mountain, adventure lid. Offering good coverage, lots of ventilation and integrated features for using goggles, lights and cameras, it certainly seems to be a good start. To add to the protection it offers, it also includes the MIPS system. More on this in the full review but in a nutshell it helps to reduce the amount of rotational force that may be transferred to a riders brain.

My initial thoughts are that this feels like a very comfy lid, the Roc Loc system provides a really snug fit but also suspends the main part of the helmet off your head. This helps comfort but also aids the ventilation and allows air flow around the riders head. I’ll be using this over the coming weeks on my winter training rides in an effort to get fit for the up coming season. Watch this space for more details and a full review coming soon.
