First Look – Leatt 3DF Knee Pads

No matter how casual your riding attire is, the one thing you won’t see any mountain biker worth their weight, ride without is a pair of knee pads. We take a look at some Leatt 3DF’s.

Leatt designed this pad around their 3DF elbow guard, they added an additional hardshell impact area below the knee pad. The result is a hybrid knee pad with both 3DF and hardshell impact protection that covers the knee and the upper part of the shin.

Usually I prefer a simple and lightweight knee pad, something not too bulky and heavy. My first thought when I saw these was that they looked quite big and not my type of thing. As soon as I picked them up though my thoughts started to change, they feel light for their size and then I tried them on and they felt really good. As well as the knee and upper shin pads, there is a lot of padding around the sides. This makes them feel really supportive but not at all restrictive.

Leatt Pads 6

After a little while on the bike I was very impressed with them. Very comfortable thanks to the way they are built up. The 3DF knee pad does not sit directly on the knee but is suspended off it for a better feel and maneuverability. They’ve not taken any serious knocks yet but watch this space and I’ll be back with more news when they have taken some abuse.
