Duck Smart Mini Kit – Mini Review
Smelly helmet? Might be worth trying a Duck Smart mini kit. Excessive double entendres ahoy!

Given the level of tech that goes into modern mountain bike helmets and given the fact they are the only thing that stand between your head and the ground should you hit the deck, it seems only right that a bit of helmet TLC should be considered. Duck Smarts neat little Helmet Cleaner Kit is a great product to throw in your kit bag should your helmet need a polish. Included in the kit is a bottle of Earth Mover, a bottle of Smart ‘n’ Ezee Mousse, a micro fibre cloth and a duel sided ‘Duck Pad’. My oldest full face helmet had been left standing from its last ride back in February 2013 and given the typical conditions at that time of year, it was in a fairly sorry and dirt encrusted state.

Firstly, in order to get the heavy dirt and mud off the lid, a quick spray of the Earth Mover onto the Duck Pad, a bit of agitation and a rinse off and the year old mud had gone. So far so good, but the sparkly shine it once had was more or less gone. Given that it had been sat on a shed shelf with sunlight glowing on it all day, it seemed unlikely that it was ever going to return to its best. But the Smart ‘n’ Ezee mousse promised a ‘perfect shine’ so I was prepared to give the benefit of the doubt. Using the mousse with the micro fibre cloth very quickly and very obviously returned the helmet to its best. Most notably was the great smell. Duck Smart claim that the Smart ‘n’ Ezee mousse has protective qualities too. Certainly using chemical laden household cleaners on your helmet is never a good idea given the composite materials usually used in modern cycling helmets.

So, if you want your helmet to shine and smell good then the Duck Smart mini kit is well worth a go.
Duck Smart Helmet Cleaner, Sniki Clean and Kit Cleaner are each available for £9.99
