Grips can easily get overlooked but fundamentally they are your most important contact point with a bike, so it’s important to spend a bit of time making sure you find the right grips and often that means spending more than ‘cheapest you can get’. So when ODI partnered up with Aaron Gwin it was pretty clear they were going to eventually bring to the market some very high end grips and after some considerable development time the AG-1 grips are here.
The new lock on grips feature a a single clamp area which increases the amount of available grip, which should improve the feel and ergonomics and allows those who ride, like I do, on the outside or inside of the grip a wider area to play with. This is topped off with a multi-layer soft compound knurl pattern to provide tons of traction in the worst conditions. The surface feels burly and hard wearing but happily remains super thin so no extra bulk is added with the multi-layered pattern. They also feature a tough aluminium end cap which should provide durability should you hit the deck.

Visually they are immediately striking and represent their higher retail price of £24.99. The twin colour looks really cool and the plastic and alloy combo on the end cap is an especially neat little visual feature but also enables the plastic to protect the aluminium and the aluminium in turn to protect the actual grip. The burlier 3mm allen head bolt should eradicate any potential of stripping too. The grips come installed bolted up and ready to go so they simply need sliding onto your bars and locking down. Job done. We’ll be putting these through their paces to see how they hold up and what sort of grip they offer. Full review coming soon.
