ION have spent over ten years in the water-sports industry and for the last four years they have been developing their cycling range. I spent an hour with Sean Reynolds to learn about some of their new products.
ION’s new riding gear comes in 4 different ranges, Traze (XC), Roam (street/dirt), Scrub (enduro) and Slash (downhill). There are two colour options this orange/blue and also a grey/black. The jersey comes in long sleeve with shorts and full length pant available. The Scrub range includes jerseys which come in long sleeve, 3/4 sleeve and short sleeve. Colour options include this yellow/orange, orange blue and also blue. Anyone for a vest? The scrub shorts are based on a board short with a lace up waist, inspiration from their water-sports background.Scrub short sleeve jersey and short in blue with orange detailing.ION also have a female range which is based on the Scrub range with a free-ride feel.Sunglasses are available in three models, lower price bracket comes with a single lens, middle with two lenses and higher price bracket with three. Each option comes in two colour ways.ION’s Ledge glove is their more technical offering, sanitized technology to help them stay fresh, synthetic leather to appeal to a wider market, Maki seams (external) for better grip/feel.As with the rest of their gloves, the Ledge is available in four sizes and comes with digital touch finger tips. The K-Lite is a pad which includes a new technology for ION called SAS Tech, this hardens on impact while giving a flexible feel while in use.The K-Lite pad has no straps but instead this system called the ‘snug loop’. This fabric they have brought over from water-sports warms up with body temperature and adheres to the back of your leg.K-Cup knee and shin protection comes as one unit but it acts as two. The plastic pad on the outside is removable via velcro to aid washing. Available in four sizes from small to XL.ION’s Tectonic system allows the knee guard to slide over the shin pad giving better movement while pedalling. Two pads in one neat unit.
