Core Bites – HT Components

HT Components had an extensive display of their new pedals. Available in some wild colours they were drawing some serious attention.

So who are HT Components?  To many people you might have only just noticed this brand when US DH Star Aaron Gwin took to their pedals recently, showing everyone HT is a brand that can be raced to the top.

Ht Components grabbed our eyes pretty quickly at the show, not just for their vast array of colours but for the extent of the range.  I’m not sure of any brand that has such a wide selection of pedals to suite any rider.  Remember, that’s what you need in a pedal to a certain extent, contact points are unique to the rider and that’s the way HT have gone with the sizeable range of pedals ranging from £35 to £200.

One thing to mention here is that all but one of the HT Components new pedal range are completely their own, so you won’t find these new designs being introduced with different brand logo’s elsewhere.

Pictured above are the HT ME03 and ME01.  At first they look similar, but they take on different traits.

The ME03 is the pedal with the lowest profile in the HT flats range.  With a slim axle sitting on a bearing and bush combo it’s about as thin as a flat gets using a regular axle.  Its profile is very flat though, so for the DH racer for example, if might not really offer the grip you are after.

The ME01 is very similar to that of the ME03, but the front and rear of the pedal sit quite a bit higher, giving a concave feel and much more of a locked down grip.

ME01 £119.99

The HT range is massive and is actually quite hard to get your head around when you first start looking.  The M at the start of a name stands for Magnesium and incorporates a magnesium pedal body, where as the A stands for, you guessed it – Alloy.  And if the name has a T on the end, you are special enough to have a Titanium axle version.

This is HT’s biggest innovative pedal in our eyes.  This isn’t a regular SPD here, they have re-designed the clip in system using their own unique cleat system.  These have been designed and prototyped with a shed load of input from Gwin, with this, HT are confident that they have produced a market leader of a product in the clipless pedal world.

The cleat design is fully adjustable to gain the correct tension required by the rider and allows for a really good amount of space surrounding the clip system to shell mud and stop any interference with clipping in and out.

This is the pedal which you may recognise.  At £64.99 the ANSO1 is their base model of aluminium pedals, offering great value for money.

With loads of finishes available, this raw magnesium look took the top spot for us.

Rounding it off, this is the new HT PAO1A nylon pedal.  With it’s bearing/bush combo, replaceable pins and lightweight construction this pedal offers fantastic value for money in a market filled with pricey components.

HT Components are now distributed by ISON in the UK who will be holding all the extra parts, spares and tools for the pedals as well as offering in house servicing.  We have only touched the surface of the different models available and options lists, so check out their site for more details on the range.
