Borderline Events DH – Caersws Race Report
Rideitout’s Fergus Ryan headed to the epic Caersws venue. After a long hiatus it was great to see this classic venue back in use for some Downhill action.

As the season draws to a close there was still room for one more surprise on the calendar. This was the return of the epic Caersws venue for Mike Marsden’s Borderline event. The venue had been closed for a couple of seasons and with such a history in British downhill racing I was happy to see it back in action. With a crew doing a lot of work to the track and giving it some much needed maintenance riders arrived ready for a great weekends racing.

Saturday and the sun wasn’t shining but no rain and the wind wasn’t causing any problems so racers headed up the hill and began practicing a very dusty and loose Caersws track. The newly built corners made the track flow much better and allowed racers to go faster through all the sections. A widely taped stump section near the top was putting questioning faces on a lot of racers as the multi line section was very difficult to get smooth and it was getting more and more blown out as the day progressed.

The uplift was running great with many racers getting 7-8 practice runs in on the Saturday, there were smiles all round.

Sunday, with racing in the afternoon, racers headed up for some last minute warm up and practice before hand. Some much-needed rain came down near to practice and kept the dust down, giving pretty perfect race conditions. First up in juveniles Sam Cofano smashed both his seeding and race runs to take the win by over 7 seconds.

– In youth Josh Howell won both his seeding and race run to take the win in youth category.
– In junior a very competitive category Chain reaction PayPal rider Elliot Heap took the win by five and half seconds putting second overall.
– In senior men’s Daniel Maxey took the win with a time of 1.57 just two seconds faster than Aaron Mccarrol.
– In expert men The power house that is Leon Rosser put in a storming run and took First place with a time of 1:56.19.

– In The Women’s Category Alexandra WOHLGENSINGER took the win in her category.
– In hard tail men’s, an unusual category at such a wild track Matthew Morrissey took the win.
– In the Veteran Mens Mark Weightman won buy a massive 7.7 seconds , a great run from him.
– In masters Neil White took the win by just .37 of a second , some very close racing on a short track.

– Finally in elite Men , James Hughes took the win with a 1:54.85 the fastest time of the day and a great run from him.
A massive thank you from all the racers to Mike Marsden for putting on such a great race and hopefully we will see a return to Caersws some time in the next season.
