3rd Slice of Core

In our third slice of Core we take a look at SixSixOne, Oakley, Spank and SDG.

We were drawn to the new colour lines in SixSixOne’s Comp helmet range. Visually their new lids really stand out and now look far more high-end than their £64.99 price tag would indicate.

Oakley were pretty excited about their Prism Lens Technology. In development for 15 years it’s made waves in the Ski and Snowboard world and it looks to do the same in mountain biking. Glasses with a Prism lenss designed for Trail/Enduro riding are available and it seems that a Downhill goggle utilising the same technology is in the pipeline. The lens is tailored so the Prism technology used in the Road Cycling Glasses utilises different optics to that of the MTB Glasses. Looking at videos of the glasses in use they appear to pull out all the detail and undulations of the terrain in front of you and naturally adjust to light conditions.

Fort those who aren’t keen on running Carbon bars on their bike should look at Spanks new ‘Vibro Core’ Spike Bar. Mick and Tracey Hannah have been extensively testing them and they have been shown to reduce vibration leading to hand numbness, ‘arm-pump’ and hand/arm fatigue. The ‘Vibro Core’ material is low density material which completely fills the bar and as a result reduces vibration, essentially ‘soaking up the energy waves’. The extra bonus is that it increase rigidity of the bar and therefore results in a more responsive feel. The bar comes in at 325g and just £74.99 so if you want some of the benefits of Carbon without the high price then these may be for you.

The SDG line of seats look really good for this year with some funky colour lines. They also had their new all-weather saddle which has done away with the micro injected knobs and instead uses a none slip coating which will continue to work in the worst wet conditions. Price TBC
