PayPal Gift: A Warning!
« on: May 19, 2009, 11:40 »
There seems to be a large number of occurences of people requesting to be paid via PayPal using the "Gift" system.

Now I as much as the next person detest lining PayPal's pockets but using the Gift method invariably revokes all your rights in terms of claiming if items do not turn up. It is all in black and white in PayPal's T&Cs but still countless people use it.

If you do not trust the buyer DO NOT (yes in bold and underlined) use PayPal gift to pay. We have had a case on here of a user scamming several members out of several hundred pounds in total with only a very small proportion of it being reclaimed.

If you use PayPal make sure you are a Verified buyer (the verification process is very simple) and that the seller has a Confirmed account. If you do so you will be covered under the Buyer Protection Program and if things go pear shaped you have an infinitely better chance of seeing your hard earned back.

To re-iterate:

-First of all use some common sense.
-Secondly DO NOT use PayPal gift if you do not 100% trust the person you are buying from.

Keep safe people

Seriously people DO NOT PAY via Paypal Gift if you do not actually physically know the person.

We have had a load more reports of people being conned out of money responding to Wanted Ads.

Do NOT do it. It's better to increase the payment amount to cover PayPal fees than to use Gidt and basically sign away all rights of claiming any money back. Paypal gift is as bad as Western Union money tranfser, just don't do it. We can't be explicit enough about this!

If you care about your money DO NOT do it. Simple as.
