CatEye Volt6000 – First Look

CatEye have been producing cycle lights for as long as I can remember. My first proper bike light was the CatEye Stadium. Back then, that was the light to have. It was immense, it made everything else look like you were riding with a candle on your bars. Now they bring us the Volt6000.

Times have changed in the world of night riding, there are more companies producing high power lights these days. The Volt6000 has more competition than the old Stadium used to have. Having said that, I’m confident that this new CatEye is going to put up a good fight.

“Another in a long line of CatEye firsts, from the first flashing light in 1964 to the first LED headlight in 2001 to the brightest headlight in the world in 2015.” – CatEye website

Not only do all the parts have that typical CatEye quality feel to them, they all come very nicely packaged in a protective case. Rather that than a flimsy box that gets thrown away. From a quick lights-off test indoors, the results look extremely impressive. The whole lamp unit uses a fan to keep things cool, this does create some noise but will this be audible while riding, time will tell but I doubt it.

Below are a couple of images of the Volt in action at Eurobike this year. They obviously don’t really do it justice but it’s just a guide. I wiill be giving it a thorough test over the coming days/weeks and will be reporting back soon. Watch this space, it’s going to get brighter!
