Lizard Skins Grips - First Look

Lizard Skins produce over 15 styles of MTB specific grips, from simple slide-on versions to lock-ons. We’ve been given a couple of different options to try out.

Lizard Skins was started in the early nineties by two guys, the name and logo came about from one of their brothers. Lance Larson had a brother at college and he had a project to design a company name and logo. He came up with Lizard Skins as a name and the YingYang style logo. The brothers asked if they could use it and he said yes. From a company that once worked from a single work table, it now has distributers and customers in over 70 countries around the world. As well as grips, they now produce protective parts for nearly every part of your bike, from chain stay protectors to look boots and headset seals.

Here we look at two of their different grip offerings, the Peaty Lock-On and the DSP Durasoft Polymer grips.

Lock-On Peaty Grip

Surely everyone knows the benefits of lock-on grips by now. I’m aware they aren’t for everyone, some prefer other methods, including wiring their grips on. For me, you can’t beat a good pair of lock-ons and these seem to be spot on so far. I don’t like a big, overly cushioned grip and are great. These come with the grips, clamps, plugs and screws.

DSP Grips 30.3mm

Lizard Skins have used their DSP technology, which is known for durability, shock absorption and great feel in any conditions. They have taken this material used in their Durasoft Polymer Bar tape and included it in these MTB specific grips. These promise to provide “unmatched ultralight look and feel” due to the fusion of feather-lite lock tape technology and the proven performance of the DSP material.
