Honey Stinger Energy Foods – First Look

We tried some Honey Stinger Products back at Core Bike earlier this year. We liked them so much we couldn’t wait to munch on some more.

Honey Stinger from 2 Pure.

Located in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Honey Stinger makes nutritious and great tasting honey-based foods. Their history goes all the way back to the 1950’s when Ralph and Luella Gamber developed the EN-R-G Bar (“EN” for energy, “R” for Ralph, and “G” for Gamber). Their aim was to provide an alternative to the candy bars available at the time. Their plan was simple: natural ingredients, great taste and (since Ralph was a beekeeper), honey. Honey Stinger’s energy and protein bars, waffles (yes, waffles, more later), gels and chews are all-natural foods designed for athletes and great for anyone looking for a healthy snack.

I’ve tried many different energy based energy products over the years and come across many variations in texture and flavour. Gels can go from watery to very thick and gloopy. Bars range from crumbly to something requiring a trip to the dentist. From what I’ve tried of them so far, these sit nicely in the middle with the bars not requiring more energy to chew than they give you. It is these bars and the energy chews that we have to try out at the moment.

Energy Bars
The bars are made with over 30% honey, 5g Non-GMO Soy Protein, 23 vitamins and minerals, calcium antioxidants and natural flavours.

Like previously mentioned, these bars are a great texture and they taste amazing too.

Flavours –

  • Berry Banana Buzz
  • Blueberry Buzz
  • Peanut Butter’n Honey
  • Rocket Chocolate

Energy Chews
These are smaller and softer than other similar products on the market that I’ve tried. So far I feel this makes them a little easier to eat on the move. These include naturally occurring fibre and protein derived from 100% organic tapioca syrup and honey.

I have had the opportunity to try one of these waffles and I was super impressed. Not that I have anything against the usual bars and gels but these are a great alternative.

Energy Gels –
Honey Stinger have two ranges of gels, the classic and the organic ranges.

Classic Gels
These have been designed to be more versatile than other energy gels. With the inclusion of the honey in these gels, they have been designed to be eaten straight from the packet like usual but also spread on toast or stirred into tea. We haven’t got any of these to try but should we try them at some point, we’ll let you know. Flavours available are – Gold and Ginsting.

Organic Gels
Their organic gels offer a blend of organic tapioca syrup, organic honey and electrolytes. They offer a different taste and texture from their classic gels with the added bonus of new flavours.

Flavours available-

Acai Pomegranate, Fruit Smoothie, Vanilla, Caffeinated Strawberry Kiwi, Caffeinated Chocolate, Mango Orange.
