Leatt showed us their range for 2016, highlighting that they are much more than just neck braces.

The Airflex Pro range gets some additional protection around the sides and above the knee.

Gloves were one of the headliners. The 4.0 Windblock gloves feature a windproof back to keep the wind off on chilly rides, and share the same level of protection as the 4.0 Lite – coverage across the knuckles and smaller two fingers. The 3.0 X-Flow still have knuckle coverage but not the smaller finger coverage. The 4.0 range all have a super supple “nano-grip” palm that maintains feel.

We first saw the Leatt 6.0 Carbon helmet last year, and this year it’s made it to production. While the 6.0 features a full carbon layup, the 5.0 features a more wallet friendly composite. On both helmets there has been a real drive to reduce volume, which in turn will reduce the forces put through the head in a crash.

A lot has been said about brain rotation and how that causes concussion. These small blue turbines are Leatt’s answer to that. By deforming and allowing a small amount of rotation they claim to reduce forces especially during “lighter” impacts.

The 5.0 composite helmet has the same styling and features as the 6.0 at a reduced price. Both helmets are tweaked to integrate perfectly with their range of neck braces. They also feature a small port to take a hydration tube and plenty of venting to work at all speeds.

They were also showing their range of packs, all of them featuring 3DF removable back protectors and baffled roll top bladders. Un-suprisingly all of the packs are neck brace compatible, and have moved away from the traditional rucksack fastening at the front to maintain freedom of movement.

GoPro mounts on the chest of the bag, and easily adjustable fit make these some of the most feature packed bags we’ve seen for a while.

Helmet and neck brace carrying systems feature across most of the range, and as well as waterproof shell and zips.

The whole range of gear is driven by a scientific desire to protect users and develop super functional products. We can’t wait to get some kit into the Welsh winter to see just how it holds up!
