Fort William Bit Pits #1

Rain check on racing today. With the Gondola out of action riders were sparse, so Chris took some time out to have a wander around the pits.

Even with no action happening, they’re still finding things to talk about and giving updates to the die hard fans that are still in attendance.

There isn’t much to put off the crowds in Fort William, the rain and excessive wind is doing it’s best though.

Danny Mac’s in town for his Drop and Roll Tour, there’s no dampening his spirits today.

There’s little action in the pits today as far as the teams are concerned, in the case of Ghost, no action at all.

The rain has been pretty constant and fairly heavy all day today with only very short dry spells.

The racers that are still around are doing their best to entertain the fans with various autograph signings going on throughout the day.

Even without any action on the hill today, some teams are still putting in the work to make sure everything is ready for an early start tomorrow morning.

It’s not just the gondola that’s an issue with racing on this hill, the top is too exposed for the many marshals that would have to be up there all day. The gondola is still running but due to the wind it can’t take any bikes. I asked the question regarding having the bikes inside to avoid that sail effect on the outside. Apparently this would simply take too long.

This is Fort William and it wouldn’t be the same without the Mavic mechanics beavering away building wheels. They’ll have had easier weekend than usual with no riding today though.
