Epic Cymru is a brand new Mountain Bike stage race held over 5 days within South Wales on August 15-19th,2015.

Epic Cymru can’t be pigeon holed to one style of riding, it is aimed at the whole spectrum of riders, from XC to enduro; offering as much for the weekend warrior as the hardcore racer. We like to call it… Mountain Biking!

The race will include some of the best and most famous riding spots in South Wales, including Bike Park Wales, Afan Forest Park, Rheola Forest & Margam Park with a mix of trail centre riding and natural riding including areas within the Brecon Beacons National Park.

The race format will including timed sections and linking sections, during the 5 days, riders will compete over 18 timed sections with separate cross country and downhill sections. Stage distances will be manageable but still challenging 45-75 kilometres with an emphasis on providing fun, technical riding throughout. Racing will of course be optional, many riders will choose to sit up and enjoy the amazing views on offer and enjoy the riding.

All logistics, transportation, catering, nightly entertainment and camping is included as standard, with other accommodation options also available as well as a bike care package, meaning riders can worry about what is important: The riding.

It isn’t all about the riders though, being held in the middle of the British school holidays, the event will be family friendly, with plenty of activities on offer for all ages. With the beautiful Gower coastline just a stones throw away it could make the perfect holiday base.

Entries will open on Sunday January 11th, with numbers being limited to 225 riders.

The Riding:

South Wales has been renowned for its Mountain Biking for many years. Afan Forest was one of the first places in the World to have a trail specifically designed and built for Mountain Bikes and now Epic Cymru will be the first ever MTB stage race to be held in South Wales and will feature the very best riding the area has to offer. From the classic XC venue of Margam Park, to Afan Forest with a huge network of trails and the internationally renowned Bike Park Wales. It isn’t all about the trail centres though, with plenty of fun, technical riding in other forest areas including Bryn & Rheola plus natural riding around Ystrafellte.

We can’t pigeon hole Epic Cymru to one style of riding, it is aimed at the whole spectrum of riders, from XC to enduro; offering as much for the weekend warrior as the hardcore racer. We like to call it… Mountain Biking!

Timed XC and downhill sections will form around 40-50% of the riding, with the remainder being un-timed linking sections. This is done not only to ensure the event sticks within the right of way laws of the UK, but also gives everyone the opportunity to sit up and enjoy the amazing views.

Family and supporters will be welcomed with a range of activities on offer just for them. Each venue has been chosen with riders & supporters in mind. Family camping option is available as are family rooms. With things to do such as Kayaking, archery & Go-Ape at Margam Park, to the stunning Dan yr Ogof show caves there will be something on offer for all ages.
