Eurobike 14 – Marzocchi

We dropped by at the Marzocchi stand to see what they had dropping…

Marzocchi-Dropper-post

This was the main reason we dropped by the Marzocchi stand this year, we wanted to see the new dropper post we have been sniffing out for a few years. It was a little hidden and zocchi wouldn’t let out on any information on it, but it’s looking like a finished product so we expect to see it landing sooner rather than later.

Marzocchi-380-2015-range

The Marzocchi 380 fork has started to make a name for itself this year as one of the most stable, light and capable DH forks on the market and all for good reasons. For 2015, internally it’s the same fork with the dynamic bleed cartridge, but from the outside it’s had a bit of a make over and now has a little brother.

The 380 now comes in 3 versions, leaving the 888 dead and buried. We now have the 380 C2R2, the 380 C2R2 Titanium and the more basic 380CR. Aesthetically the 380 has now lost the nickel plating on its stanchions and has been replaced with their new ‘Espresso’ colouring on the Titanium model, and a more subtle form of hard anodizing on the C2R2 and CR. The main reason for the change purely and simply is its visual appeal.  Nickel just didn’t seem to do it for the majority it seemed. This isn’t just a hard ano for the sake of it though, a lot of processes have been put in place to create something that will work like the nickel and retain the strength in the fork in both.

The 380 CR is the ‘eco’ version of the fork, same concept, just pulled back a little to make it more affordable featuring low speed compression and rebound. Although a more affordable fork, you still reap the weight benefits Marzocchi brings these days with a 2920g fork, lighter than many of its competitors.

s3c2r-marzocchi-air-shock

Fresh for 2015 is the new 053 air shock for all your do-it-all trail bikes (we had a first ride on a proto earlier this year). It’s full of tuning options with high and low speed compression adjustments as well as rebound. Marzocchi have also introduced an adjustable gate control via a screw, this allows you to quite simply change the amount of platform the shock gives as well as a lock-out switch. The internals work a little differently to other MTB air shocks, inside the reservoir you will find a bladder, which keeps it all super compact.

The 053 shock comes with the new Espresso coating and also has a neat little guard in the production model to keep that filth out and protect the sometimes vulnerable (bike depending) main tube. We are expecting to see the first production of this shock arrive in early 2015.

Marzocchi-Carbon-Crown

It’s XC for now, but lightweight technology doesn’t take too long to pass through the disciplines, maybe we will see a carbon crown on a DH fork soon?!
