DH World Champs 2014 – Preview

With the World Cup series all wrapped up it means, that unlike in previous years everyone can go hell for leather in Hafjell to take the coveted rainbow stripes. It’s World Champs time.

The World Cup season proved to be one of the best in a very long time, with each and every race being completely unpredictable we ended up with an unlikely champion, first time wins and the return to form of one of the sports most universally loved riders – Sam Hill. With a couple of season ending wins under his belt could he be the danger man this weekend? Or will it be Josh ‘Ratboy’ Bryceland who seems to have found the sort of form and flow that is proving unstoppable? With the World Cup title under his belt who would bet against him? Or could the likes of Gwin, Atherton or Hart put together a run that reminds just how fast they can be? In the womens it’s a brave man who would think that it will be anyone other than one of the trio of Atherton, Carpenter or Ragot to take the title.

Hafjell is pretty much a universally popular track and has the right mix of high speed, technicality and some big old ‘huck’ potential. It’s a track that begs to be ridden as fast as you dare and no doubt it will encourage those who want the title to put everything on the line.

And though it’s probably a three horse race for the womens the World Champs can always offer up some surprises.
